Brunner lays down Toyota ambitions

GUSTAV BRUNNER, the technical director of Toyota Motorsport, has told the Reuters newsagency that Toyota is not expecting huge success early in its Formula 1 program.

"We want to make points next year, not this year," said Brunner. "and reach the podium for the first time in two years' time (2004). In the fifth season we want to be running with the front guys. This is realistic - but very hard to achieve. Formula i is at a very high level technically and we are a new team and have to learn. We have to start at the bottom but Toyota is a big company and they will not stay at the bottom for a long time."
